Ugh
(a villanelle)
As I wandered by
the sandy shore
Watching the waves in their merry dance
What I chanced
to see upon the floor
Lumps of grey jelly,
a score or more
And I gave them more than a cursory glance
As I wandered
by the sandy shore
And when I looked
along some more
There were far more than caused by chance,
When I glanced
to see upon the floor
Jellyfish, Portuguese
Men o' War
The sting of which cause swimmers to prance
As I wandered by
the sandy shore
My foreign visitor,
he was not sure
Was worried to go in any distance
'Cause what he saw upon
the sea shore
I wondered what
these creatures were for
Hardly creatures of torrid romance
As I wandered
by the sandy shore
That I chanced to see upon the floor
